about us
History: Kenisa was founded in 1985 by Persian Jewish immigrants, rooted in Sephardic traditions and customs. The word Kenisa means “synagogue” in Farsi, derived from the Hebrew Beth Keneset.
Currently: While we own a property on 73rd Street with plans to build our own home in the future, we currently hold our services at Park East Synagogue. Our services schedule varies based on demand, but we primarily gather for morning services on Shabbat and Jewish holidays.
Vision : Our mission is to preserve our rich heritage while shaping a vibrant future. We honor the wisdom of our elders and pass down their knowledge, traditions, and rituals to the next generation. We are a community that is both welcoming and inclusive, yet deeply committed to the sacred heritage and halakhic values passed down through generations of our ancestors who lived in Iran for centuries.
